Riverview School provides much more than a classroom experience.
Nestled on Cape Cod, MA and catering to students age 11-21 with a variety of learning disorders, Riverview prides itself on nurturing the whole student. Education goes beyond academics, and includes vocational, social/emotional, wellness, and independent living preparation as well.
As their digital production partner, it was our goal not just to enhance the user experience and exploration capabilities of their site, but to more strongly convey the potential of each student and the opportunities that life at Riverview offers them through a refreshed, modern design.
OUR PROCESS
⚡︎ Discovery
As with all projects, we began with a discovery period to get better acquainted with the various project stakeholders and their goals for the site. Between calls and questionnaires with faculty, parents, and other community members, we honed in on two key objectives – make content easier to find, and help parents visualize their children’s potential experiences at Riverview.
⚡︎ UX/IA
Next comes user experience and information architecture. From the UX perspective, we worked with Riverview to wireframe key pages and page types to ensure functional and content needs were understood between all parties. From the IA perspective, we drafted a new sitemap with optimized pathways for users to explore different sections of the site.
⚡︎ Design
With UX/IA ratified, design takes center stage. We began by refining the existing Riverview branding into a core style guide of web-optimized colors, fonts, and UI elements. With styles approved on a handful of full-page design comps, the remaining blocks and modules from the ratified wireframes were designed on both desktop and mobile for approval.
⚡︎ Development
Approved designs were translated into custom blocks and layouts within a WordPress backend. Utilizing the Gutenberg editor, page designs can be built, repeated, and modified on the fly. This approach grants maximum flexibility for future content development needs while also allowing for the easy integration of new tools and functions moving forward.
⚡︎ Content & QA
Using the new sitemap as a guide, Riverview drafted new and improved content for the site. With written content, videos, and imagery gathered, our team set about constructing the required pages and posts. This content entry period doubled as an internal QA exercise, ensuring all blocks and plugins function correctly on both desktop and mobile devices.
⚡︎ Launch Support
Our team worked directly with Riverview IT to ensure a smooth launch in September 2025. Following launch, our team began written documentation of the site and remained on stand-by for any immediate adjustments as part of our 30-day launch support coverage.
